Social Security Education for Employers

Wednesday, November 30, 2016

Proactive human resource departments are offering valuable seminars to retiring employees. Providing Social Security education is not only good practice, but it is also an inexpensive way to add value to retirement packages.

Here are 10 ten things retiring employees should know about Social Security:
  1. Options, options, options. Folks have options and must Make a Plan.
  2. Social Security may be a joint lifetime benefit. Widow(er) may be impacted by a decision to take benefits early.
  3. Retirement benefits will be reduced by 25% if taken at age 62. This reduction is permanent.
  4. SS benefits will be increased by 32% if taken at age 70. This increase is permanent.
  5. Support staff at Social Security offices are trained not to discuss options with people. Finding honest answers to questions about retirement benefits is not always easy.
  6. Divorced individuals can switch to benefits from multiple exes if beneficial.
  7. A surviving spouse can begin benefits as early as age 60.
  8. Social Security benefits are computed by taking the highest 35 years of indexed earnings.
  9. A individual can file a restricted application to receive only spousal benefits and then switch to benefits on own record later.
  10. A single person can utilize the claim and suspend strategy to create a cash reserve.
Is your company innovative and progressive? Consider providing Social Security education for your employees. Contact us today to schedule an on-site seminar for your group. Employees will appreciate the thought, and the attendance rate for these sessions is always good.

FEATURED TESTIMONIAL

There were a few scenarios that neither one of us (husband and wife) was aware of. We probably would have picked the wrong one . . . It’s a significant difference depending one he one you pick.
